Northern Michigan University Portfolio

A curated collection of design projects developed at Northern Michigan University, highlighting my focus on branding, user experience, visual communication, and advocacy.

AbuseSilences

Abuse Silences

Abuse Silences is a 24”×36” poster that uses visual communication as a form of advocacy to address the psychological impact of abuse. High-contrast red and black convey urgency, fear, and danger, while the isolated white silhouette represents the victim’s loss of voice and identity. Radiating typography creates visual noise to reflect the overwhelming weight of different forms of abuse, reinforced by the abuser's hand covering the mouth to symbolize forced silence. Influenced by Milton Glaser’s use of silhouette, expressive linework, and bold contrast, the poster functions as a direct public statement intended to raise awareness and encourage reflection.

VertiHarvest

VertiHarvest is a comprehensive branding campaign project that displays developing brand identity. This project focuses on integrating food production into urban environments, bringing vertical agriculture to both small and large scales as both infrastructure and lifestyle. VertiHarvest’s branding is shown across 2D graphics, 3D packaging, and 4D applications to demonstrate how a cohesive brand identity can function consistently across numerous platforms.

PlantMania-HomePage

Plant Mania

Plant Mania is a seven-page educational website that translates the cultural history of houseplants into an accessible and engaging digital experience. Designed to reduce overwhelm in text-heavy content, the site uses a structured grid, clear hierarchy, and interactive timeline navigation to allow users to control how they explore each historical era. A green and warm neutral palette, paired with sans-serif typography and generous white space, creates visual clarity while high-contrast plant imagery provides rhythm and guides the viewer’s eye. The project demonstrates how thoughtful hierarchy, navigation, and visual pacing can transform complex cultural information into an intuitive user experience.

Thrift my Jewelry

Thrift my Jewelry is a WordPress-built e-commerce website that translates the cultural experience of thrifting into a curated and accessible digital platform. Designed for users who enjoy secondhand shopping but seek efficiency, the site uses a structured grid, clear filtering (by item type and price), and intuitive navigation to reduce overwhelm and support quick browsing. A neutral palette of soft cream, warm tan, muted pink, and green minimizes visual noise, allowing product photography and key information to remain the focus, while sans-serif typography and scale create hierarchy for fast scanning. The project demonstrates how thoughtful branding, photography, and user-centered design can transform a chaotic retail experience into a streamlined and engaging online environment.
